Reflections

My project was on digital communication; rights and responsibilities. Digital communication is a way of communicating with other by using the computer, e-mail,  texting, IM, and many more. It is a good thing that we have these but when you use this you need to know about the rights and communication. Thats why I made my project. My project explains what they are and explains all of them.

Celebrities’ Behavior Gone Bad
When people look in gossip magazines what do people normally look for? Yes, they look for the bad behavior of the celebrities’. It brings more attention to them rather than the good behavior of the celebrities’. Celebrities’ bad behavior is covered more in the news stories then positive behavior because it causes more drama and gossip, gets more publicity, and for people it is more interesting to learn about the mistakes of others.
First, celebrities’ bad behavior is covered more in the news stories because they cause more drama and make more gossip. Their type of behavior causes a lot of drama and gossip. When they do something that is unexpected or out of the ordinary then, people start to talk, and that leads to gossip. Gossip of course always leads to drama. In October 7, 2008 Amy Larocca of MSNBC states that the reason we like to cause drama and gossip is because,” [People], as culture, are fascinated by gossip at the moment-the celebrity variety in particular.”
Guerrero 2
Secondly, the bad behavior of celebrities’ is in the news more often because it causes more publicity than good behavior. It gets more publicity because it is bad behavior and mainly because it is the bad behavior of famous people. Good behavior is okay but it is not as exciting as hearing about the bad things that celebrities’ do. Many people think that, “If [celebrities’] fate as a public figure depends on attention, the message is clear: the more [they] offend and shock public sensibilities, the more famous [they] will become” (Shippey 2010). It makes people have many questions and talk more so then the celebrities become more popular also.
Lastly celebrities’ bad behavior is more interesting for people to learn about especially because it is others mistakes. Since it is others making the mistakes it makes people want to know about it more. People like watching others make mistakes. Many of the people think,” We may forget about our own while we are busy with pointing out and even severely publically scorning their bad morals, whatever sinful we may have experienced from them, and thus [the people] get a bit released, elated on our own while realizing that they are no better than ourselves” (Garonfolo 2007). It is entertaining for them one because it is someone else’s mistakes and two celebrities are famous people.
Celebrities’ bad behavior is covered more in the news stories than positive behavior because it causes more drama and gossip, gets more publicity, and it is more interesting for people to watch others making mistakes. Good behavior compared to bad behavior is nothing. It’s just boring. Bad behavior is way more interesting. People nowadays only want to hear about the bad behavior and the mistakes of others, especially celebrities.

Evaluate

My rating of myself on a scale of 1-6:

INVESTIGATE:
For investigate I would rate myself a 5 out of 6 because I think that I could have maybe done a little better. I could have taken more time to investigate about flipbook and comic book.

PLAN:
For plan I think that I would give myself a 6 because I planned what I would do for my project. After all the research I gather what I had investigated and put it all together to help me plan.

DESIGN:
I would give myself a 6 because I think that I made creative designs. I did all three designs and I took my time to think of all of them.

EVALUATE:
I would rate myself a 5 out of 6 because I did find all my mistakes and I listed them. I also recorded what I did wrong, right and how I would make my project better.

Plan Questions

1. What idea did you choose to demonstrate the design cycle and why did you choose it?
My idea was that I would make a flipbook to show the 6th graders how the design cycle works. I chose it because i wanted a little challenge for myself. I heard that flipbooks were hard to make so I wanted to create a flipbook about the design cycle.
2. Does your idea meet all of the requirements?
I think that my idea does meet the requirements. it shows the investigate part, plan, design, and create part of the design cycle.
3. Use the story board paper below to plan your presentation.  Include how many levels you will have, what will be on each level, how will you include teaching skills to young students, and what will your questions be about.
story board.pdf found in schoology under “materials” & then files.
I am going to use about 4o pages to make my presentation quick. It will be about a business man who wants to create a new toy and he comes up with am idea. He creates a survey for some little kids. then the kids give him their ideas and tell them what they like. He then makes a couple of designs. The business man uses the kids ideas and puts ideas puts them all together and creates a new toy.
4. Explain how you will use your time to get your project finished in 12 days:
I will try to spend about 15-30 minutes a day working on my project. i will use that time to work on my blog, my post and on actually creating the project.

Today I finished my survey but I have not tested it out on the 6th graders. All that I need to do is find three sixth graders and show them my flipbook. Then, when I am done showing them my flipbook I will give them my survey and test out what they have learned from my project.
1. How can my learning serve my community?
We can learn new things and then we can teach others what we have learned.
2. How can your future projects become better?
My future project can become better with brogress. My project that I am doing now, I can later look back at it and see what I can do better. Then, when I do  another project I will know what to do better and how I can improve it.
3. What have you learned about yourself and what you will continue to do or not do and why?
I have learned that if I try something and I work my hardest I can be successful. On every project that I do from now on I will work really hard.
4. How do you feel about your final product? What would you rate yourself on the Rubric scale of 1-6 for each part of the Assessment Criterion?
I feel good on my final project. It isn't the best but it isn't the worst either. I tried to use all of my time effectively. On a scale of a 1-6 I would rate myself maybe a 4 or a 5.

5. What would you do differently in regards to your planning and execution of your plan?
I would try to use my time more wisely. I would also put more effort into my project.

Survey For 6th Graders

1. What new things did you learn from my flipbook?

2. What is the second stage of the design cycle?

3. What stage do you find the solution in?

4. What is the second stage of the design cycle?

5. What is the design cycle?

6. In which stage do you plan a product or solution?

7. What do you do in the evaluate stage?

8. On a scale of 1-5 how good did my flipbbook teach you about the design cycle?

9. Did my project make it easier for you to understand the design cycle?

10. How many stages are in the design cycle?

This week is the week when we have to finish up our project. Create, is the part of the design cycle that we are doing today. I am creating a flipbook. Flipbook is a hard thing to create. It takes a lot of time and a lot of patience. To make sure I finish this I will work at home and since it is flipbook I will have to finish it all at once. I am to try my best and make my flipbook look really awesome. my options are to stay after school and finish up my flipbook or I can just finish at my house. By the end of this week i will for sure finish up my whole project.

Design Questions

10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it.
Formulate a Design Specification
I am going to create a flipbook. I am going to create a flipbook because I think that it will be easier for a 6th grader to understand what the design cycle is. I am creating this project so I can show a 6th grader the step of the design cycle and how it is important.
11. What are the requirements for this assignment?
  • needs to be at least two minutes long
  • a 6th grader needs to be able to understand the design cycle
  • needs to not be distracting
  • has to be easy to understand
  • talks about all the stages in the design cycle
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment?
The presentation of my flipbook has to be at least two minutes long. We can go longer if we choose to but as long as its not less then two minutes.
13. How will you "test" your project?
We will be surveying the 6th graders on what they think of our project and if they've learned anything from our project. We can also give them a little quiz on what they learned and how well my project helped them learned about the design cycle. The quiz could be about 15 questions long. I would want them to at least answer 80% right.

Summary

For the past couple of weeks we have been working on the design cycle. We were supposed to make something that will help a 6th grader learn about the design cycle. The design cycle is important because it teaches us how to investigate, plan, create, and then evaluate. First we had to pick which two items we will be investigating. I chose a flipbook and a comic strip. We had to go to some websites and learn about both of them. I rated the flipbook a better score than I rated the comic strip. I thought that the flipbook would be easier for a 6th grader to learn about the design cycle. Then, we had to make brainstorming ideas on the item we chose. I chose the flipbook and I had to make three samples of how I wanted it to be.

flipbook samples

Flipbook Sample #1:

Page 1: A pizza wakes up in the morning and finds out that someone has stole her toppings (cheese).

Page 2: She brainstorms ideas and a list of foods who could have stolen her toppings.

Page 3: She asks all her cousins if they've seen anything suspicious. They all say that her cousin lasagna was acting pretty suspicious.

Page 4: So she goes to her cousin lasagna and it turns out she did steal her topping.

Page 5: In the end she is able to go in public now that she has her toppings.

Flipbook Sample #2:

Page 1:  A bussiness man wants to make up this whole new toy that all kids will love.

Page 2: He starts to survey many little kids on what they like. Many little kids say stuff like dinosaurs,  and robots.

Page 3: The man starts talking to some of his other people and they all think and come up with ideas. Then one man comes up with this brilliant idea.

Page 4:  They come up with the idea of making robot dinosaurs.

Page 5: They tell their inventors the idea and the inventor create the new toy.

Page 6: The next day he gives some free toys to the kids to see if they like them. It turns out that they are a big hit.

Flipbook Sample #3:

Page 1: A dog is missing his chew toy (mr.squeakers) and searches all around, asking dogs all around if they've seen his chew toy.

Page 2: The dog starts jotting down some idea on how to find his chew toy. He makes up his plan on making a device that locates all local chew toys.

Page 3: He actually creates the device.

Page 4: He uses his chew toy tracking device around his neighborhood and locates Mr. Squeakers.

comic strip

Comic strip:

For simplicity for the comic strip I rated it a score of 3. It's pretty easy for me to make, but I think that a flipbook is easier because it is only picture. The comic strip has two things. It has pictures and it has captions. That is why i rated the simplicity for a comic strip a three out of a five.

Theme in the comic strip was okay. It didn't really have that many options for them. Most of the time for comic strips you would have to draw some pictures and write captions under talking about the pictures. So, the themes for comic strip had options but not a lot.

The music was not good because it didn't even have any music. I wish that it did have music so then it could make the comic strip better and I probably would have given it a better score if it did have music. That is why I rated the music for comic strip a 0.

flipbook

Flipbook:

I chose the flipbook because it was easier for me compared to the comic strip. All you have to do is make little pictures. That's why for simplicity I gave it a 5. I also gave flipbook a 5 because since we're teaching 6th graders I think it will be easier for them to understand. They will probably pay more attention because all they're focusing on is the pictures.

For the theme i gave it a  4 out of 5 because it had pretty good options to me. it had quite a few option and i liked the ones that I saw. The themes were cool and interesting. if i were a sixth grader I would give the themes a good rating too.

Then for the music I would give it a 0. The reason i gave it a 0 is because it does not even have any music at all. Other than the music i think the flipbook is really good.

day 2 investigation reflection

Today, I researched comic strip and flipbook. The flip book looked good because its all pictures and the comic strip had pictures too but it had words. i think that the flipbook will be a good tool for me to show a 6th grader about the design cycle. I also used cool tools to research my websites that i was going to use. It helped me find out a lot of stuff about flipbook and comic strips. i want my flipbook to really help a 6th grader and i want them to understand clearly.
